Results are in from the recently completed (July, 9) Pennaylvania State Championship Chunk Shoot held at Singer's Mehdia Range near East Waterford, PA. A great time was had by all, and for the second time in the 12-year history of this event our host, Don Singer shot the winning string!

A total of twenty shooters recorded scores this year. There were several new shooters and a few missing from prior years. Hopefully there will be even more shooting next time! Food and fellowship was fantastic!

Here are the actual results:
First Place - Don Singer - 8.107"; best "X" match #2 & #6
Second - Art DeCamp - 8.777"; best "X" match #3,4,5 & Sweetest shot of the day match #3
Third - Roger Fisher - 9.292"; best "x" match #9
Fourth - Barry Harmon - 9.742" ; best "x" match #8 & 10
Fifth - Don Cherry - 11.285"
Bob Bird from WV - best "X" match#1 & 7

How many relays do you have ? I would guess that there are fifteen. We are having a chunk shoot this Saturday here in central Michigan "Broken Lock Muzzleloaders Alma Michigan" It is a fifteen shot match and the measurments are about the average as yours. Maybe next year I can get some shooters together and come and join you.

Hornturner, I too had a great time at the shoot

It was great seeing old friends and also new faces that became friends. The food is great and Mr. Singer provides a great day of shooting.

50 yards ? 100 ? By the pictures shoot on the ground what else

Good pics, Erik - thks for starting the post Art and posting the scores. I was a bit surprised as well at the high numbers. Of course, our chunk shoot is only 50 yards, not 60.

Daryl.........this range is situated in an easterly direction, not good for great shooting. Usually about half way thru the
shoot, the sun will come around and be on the target, which changes everything. In addition to the sun, it was windy.
It would take an extremely good shooter to shoot 4"or 5" strings on this range. It is a fun shoot, lots of room. On this
day, we only had 20 shooters, but could easily accommodate twice as many. Good food too.............Don

It is great for an observer to put names to faces, that you see and hear of.
Thank you for the pictures, and letting us share.
I guess this is a 50 yd. shoot, is it round ball, bullet or shooters choice?
Where could some body find the rules and regs for a shoot like this?

Allright you guys! Wazzup wit da goofy outfits? Is that PC for these types of shoots? Bib 'ralls? So when ya lie down to shoot, these bugga's ride up and pinch off the circulation to the jewelery dept.? Hmm. Some cool prizes. Looks like a E. Fleisher double bag on the table. Nice! What's in the bottles? Is Jack Daniel's a stain, thinner or a finish?

This chunk shoot was a 60yd target. We had a range officer that cleared the line to retrieve your target and then declare the line hot. We were permitted to start target shooting at 8:00 am until the match started at ten.

I believe it was all rd ball, flint or percussion, no in-lines and iron sights only. There were side bets ( silver dollar ) on closest to the x. we also had runners that took your target back to the scoring table.

Bring your spotting scope, chair, canopy, water, wife, children, pets

second thought just bring a fellow shooter and have fun.

I try to be there by 8:00 am to set up and meet old and new friends, I start practice shooting around 9:30 to get a better light as the match gets closer to starting ( learned that from horn turner ).

Mr. Singer gives a brief rules and regs before the shoot, and the fun begins. The prize wagon consists of donated gifts that are donated by the shooters.

Typicaly the bib coveralls long shirt and wide flowered tie plus a nice over coat and hat were worn at these shoots.

Here is how the boys in Wisconsin dress for chunk gun shooting, I believe bibs and funny hats are mandatory "uniform of the day"
