Ach ! ein Jaeger
« on: August 06, 2011, 02:33:25 AM »

I made this one around 1984 I hunted with it extensively If you read the topic about me shooting the deer through the ears this is the gun I used (I was aiming at the neck) The original lock I had on it was replaced as there weren't so many good locks back then. It's a .54 cal 34" barrel. I put the shield on it as I used it at the Battle of the Alamo reenactment this year ain't got around to taking it off.

Here is a picture of the rear sight if you look close there is a little gremlin with a sharp pointed ear pointing the bullet

Blunderbuss, thanks for the post.  Do you have any other photo's?  I would love to see a full profile and some more details of the carving and inlays.  What caliber is it?

Fine looking Jaeger with some well earned scars.
Tell us more about this method of only shooting a deer in the ears.....does it make it easier to sneak up on it? For the next shot.
Is your Jaeger a fast twist barrel,  or 1:60  ?
Some are made to shoot bullet rather than ball.
Thank you for the picture.
Best regards

Ha Ha it isn't a method for shooting deer it just happened,in fact I was shooting at her neck . It would sure make it easier to get close .She dropped like a sack of rocks . The twist is 1:60  I don't remember exactly, the next Jager I made was 1:50 This one shoots a ball .534. I'll see if I can get some other pictures ,stay tuned

My other Jaeger is a .577 just cause the guy who rifled it had that size rifeling head , well I slipped  in a minie ball and it worked just fine ,altho it shot higher
