Another Adjustable Measure
« on: August 11, 2011, 07:40:51 AM »
I had a problem getting a fixed 160 grain measure to throw the correct weight, so I made it adjustable with an internal sleeve.  This one is large and it throws about 160 to 290 grains of FFG.

Dave; Kinda looks like a cannon, it may need wheels. As usual a great piece of work. Should work great for a signal deck cannon. Thanks for sharing. AJ

Very nice measure!  Perhaps like AJ, my first thought was that it bears a striking resemblance to a swivel gun.

Lately I've been contemplating building a short rifle for in-the-brush whitetail hunting; sort of a big-bore flintlock carbine.  One hangup has been just how "big" do I want the bore to be.  Thanks for helping me on this: I've decided that if it takes a measure that large, it is TOO big!  :)

As always, I am impressed with your work... If you could, would you send me a pm with a price for one like that, but will go to 500 grains of powder. I would really like something like that, don't know if I could afford it, but would be interested in it if I could. Thank you

I was asked how big this measure is.  It's not all that large for being able to throw up to nearly 300 grains.  It's 5/8 inch in diameter and about 3 inches long at the smallest charge setting.  I have built a few that throw much less powder and are smaller in diameter.

That would work just great in my .62 flinter! What is the price on one just like this?Your workmanship is impressive to say the least.

Like David, I'm interested in a measure that throws about 100gr. to 165gr. with a diameter of no more than 5/8" and no less than 1/2".  It's for the .58's and my 14bore & maybe the future 16 bore barrel on the English gun.
