Butt Stock / Patchbox challenge
« on: September 23, 2011, 10:30:38 PM »
Alleged original "gunstock" tomahawk on Ebay. Most interesting is the actual original patchbox attached. Anyone know the gunsmith who made the gunstock?? (Priced at more than the the whole gun would be worth.)

PS: He has two of these rare originals for sale! Can't identify the other one either!

Can't say for sure, but about 15 years ago a fellow at Friendship in the second building toward the firing line from the Sheep shed was building these .I don't remember any one of his having a patch box,but it's been at least 15 years and maybe longer.

Interesting, the stock, and patchbox sure looks right, but the barrel filler wood, and the blade don't look right.  The pitting looks too symmetrical.  The stock looks Lancasterish.  It looks like it came out of Chuck Burrows shop. ;D  They sure are proud of that piece for that price.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole at a 1/10th of the price! Too me it screams fake!

I saw this a few days ago.  It looks like somebody found an old stock and tried to be creative with it.  The stock it self looks Virginia to me and would have been an interesting piece if some knuckle head hadn't doctored it up to try and cheat someone.  If somebody pays sixty five hundred dollars for this, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell them.
