its in the planning stage

Been looking at some of the early virginia's on this an other forums an now I cant get it out of my head that I need one, so I've got the lock, an stock in an the barrel is ordered. For my lock I've chosen a Caywood wilson since my smoothbore Caywood sparks so well. Its now in, an sparks like a muffler dragging under a car. I dont know who builds these lock's for Caywood but they are built like tanks an these two are the best sparking locks I own. As for my stock blank I ordered a plain strait grain sugar maple from Wayne Dunlap. I plan on this being a plain jane working mans gun so I did'nt want any curl in it. As for the barrel I've got Rice barrels on all my others an I do love them but I have been reading lots of good things about Charles Burton barrels so after talking to him I have a 38 inch .58 cal swamped barrel with a 1 in 72 twist that will be here in feb or early march. I plan on putting iron funiture on it with sling swivels an single trigger. I plan on taking it with me out west in 2013 if my plans hold up. An should get to deer hunt with it next year. Lots of work to do but looking forward to it. AS I name all my guns I think I will call this one thumper once its made. Below is the parts so far

Nice looking lock? But if ya don't have the barrel yet how come it's drilled and tapped for the bolts?

Nice choice and plan. I like that lock. I think it will look great on a Trade Gun I got my sights set on building. Please keep us informed (with photos, of course ...
) of your progress.

I built a cherry fowling piece a few years ago with that lock! Great lock!! I use the .62 smoothy for both turkey hunting and deer hunting.

54bucks that is the way all Caywood locks come. Dont know the reasoning behind that but I like the way they spark enough that I can overlook it. It will be a little extra trouble to get the bolts right but what the hay

I ordered five customs from Charles Burton, and he delivered right on time.
