My first gun from a blank

I figured a pistol stock was easier to part with as firewood if all went wrong :)I had some layout issues,but it was not entirely my fault.

Not a repro of anything particular: Eastern PA.
.  third quarter of the 1700's
.40 cal., 12 inch barrel,13/16' wide.  Becky flintlock
 It started out life on my bench as a square piece of maple.The first time I inletted a barrel & ramrod channel by hand,[no power tools]
I'm kinda happy with it. I have a riflegun of the same time/area in the works to go along with it.

Very nice especially for your first from a plank.  It strikes me as more of a mountain flavour - a companion for a mountain rifle.  Thanks for showing us, and I'd like to see another.

Very, very nice.   You have a right to be proud.   I made the same mistake a lot of beginners make on their first one in not taking off enough wood.   It looks like you took off enough wood in the right places.

: This pistol styling is exactly what I want to beat Taylor's old Hawken .60 pistol.  That dang thing has never been ousted from the winner's circle. I came close with my .45 barrel on the flinter we built, but although I hate to say it, I need a cap-gun to beat his cap-gun.  That single set trigger of his is wonderful.

I think you're right Daryl. It's not like a rifle. A flint or perc. does'nt seem to make a big difference. But with pistols.
