I thought about horn, but that cap in the book kept haunting me, calling to me, I wondered how I could have it cast, but then I thought, "I can do that!"

Looking good Hoochiepapa!  I like the looks of that muzzlecap photo and am looking forward to seeing how it comes out.  Good luck.

The pins are 1/16" music wire I got at a hobby store. THey bend pretty easy, and hold their shape. You can get different diameters.

Here's a blurry pic of what is eventually going to be a muzzle cap.

TOday I made a little progress, next is to fit it to the muzzle.

Thanks for the compliments. I thought about horn until I saw this muzzle cap. I just had to try and make one. Who knows, I may revert back to horn. I think I can use this when it's done to get some castings made, there's a foundry about 1/2 mile from my house.

Been a while since I've posted, been doing lots of engraving. Rear pipe.

Gave this to a friend.

I gotta admit, this is fun.

Mike, that bird is cute!

Been playing with my eagle and am not sure where it's going to go yet.  It's a bit too large for the cheek rest on the rifle so I'm  looking at other options.  It needs to be where it will get properly noticed!  Am thinking of setting it into the flap of a largish shooting bag to go with my new (not yet built) flint elk getter.

I was thinking that very same thing awhile back. It would look good on a bag. I wondered if it would be too big for your cheek piece, sorry, I should have made it smaller.

Absolutely nothing to be sorry about!!  Everyone that I show it to loves it and has some excuse for why it should go into a project for them.
