ramrod hole/pipes for smaller cal.
« on: November 20, 2011, 06:32:03 PM »
What would be the diameter of the ramrod hole and the pipes for smaller caliber flintlocks. I currently drill a 3/8" hole using 3/8" diameter pipes for .45 and .50 caliber flintlocks. I am currently building a .36cal. squirrel rifle, swamped "B weight" Rice barrel? Thanks for your input...Steve

5/16" is commonly used for the RR pipes and hole though on a really slim rifle I have gone as small as 15/64" drill and tapered the RR.  Still used 5/16 pipes except at entry pipe.

you can't go far wrong at 5/16".

I too would use 5/!6" and in fact that is what I'm using for a .32 that I am just starting. More importantly, I would like to hear more about your squirrel rifle and even see a pic or two of your build. What did you choose for a lock?
