Quaking Aspen Question
« on: December 27, 2011, 11:05:54 PM »

I have read that it is not good for a stock due to it being too soft, my question: I have a section of Aspen from the base of a 22" diameter tree and it seems quite hard...so does age/diameter make a differance in the strenght/hardness?

Yeah, and older tree will likely have better wood, but why waste your time and the money for parts with inferior wood?  I've never seen any aspen I would want to use for a stock.

Aspen doesn't even made good fire wood.  Spend a few $$ and get a piece of maple, you won't be sorry later.

Jafo I don't know where you are but I've got wood coming out of my ears here since I have a sawmill. If your needing a piece of wood I'd give it you if you were close. Or depending on what you need I could send you a piece for the cost of shipping. I am in northern WI.
