Ted Cash no drip oiler.
« on: January 03, 2012, 05:43:00 AM »
Rase and I won T.C. oilers a couple of weeks ago at a Christmas shoot. I said they would look good if put into horn or antler. Dave ran right home and whipped out a doozy from horn. Maybe we can get him to post it here. It took me a couple of weeks to get time in the shop but I did mine today. Antler ends and walnut burl body.

Mine was Steve's test case - or test dripper - depending upon how you approach the subject

Tons of fun to watch Steve do his magic on the lathe as these were converted.

Well Steve, since you ask.  This one was turned out of a horn tip.  Heated the horn after it was turned and pressed it over the brass body of the oiler.  The top is pinned to the brass cap.

Nice job on your oiler.  How is the bottom antler attached to the walnut?

Dave
The bottom is pressed about 1 nch onto the body of the oiler. Originaly I intended the wood to be longer than the body and the antler to go inside the wood and butt up against the brass. The burl  used while beautifull, was not very strong and kept breaking up. I'm lucky I got as much as I did. I think that antler or horn is still the best idea as we talked about originally. I'll probably do some more but I may make the entire unit. Not necessarily use a TC oiler.
