Recent Banded Horn
« on: December 26, 2011, 11:04:17 PM »
I finished this horn some time ago but just have not gotten around to posting it. Well, maybe almost finished. The bands aren't pinned yet. The tip is antler, the butt is maple dyed dark. The bands are also dyed dark.

Very nice, Steve!  I like the screw in spout for filling the horn. :)

Nice looking horn. For me the tip should be larger, with no collar and external threads.

The horn didn't have external threads in it. The cavity came almost to the very tip. The internal threads with the collar was just the ticket. I lked the curve and the color( rather translucent) so I just had to listen to the horn.
When we met at Rase's early this month, Scott Morrison and I went over it and he suggested dying the bands and not the horn. I agreed with that and I think it was a good choice. Thanks Scott.
The tip is an old one that I didn't like on it's original horn. I reshaped it and t worked well. Waste not!!!
Thanks for the comments guys

That is a fine horn!  The contrast between the dyed rings and the light body works well and I find wooden base plug pleasing.
