which has an illustration of his ramrod pipe mandrels. I especially like the flats and facets filed onto the entry thimble mandrel which allows you to hammer in the basic shape and then complete it with a file.

Jeff,
Thanks for posting the link. After hearing your description of the mandrel I put making one on my to-do list. It will certainly be quicker and easier than the way I've been doing it, especially pre-forming the facets in the tang.
