Old Cannon Needs Id ,black powder

Sorry if this is in the wrong area as its not a long gun but I have had no luck with finding info on it so I hope maybe someone here can steer me in the right direction The kayson looks like someone made it out of wood  to display the cannon. cannon is very heavy there is a name on it J. STURR... any info would be great

I can't find anything on the name, but I have seen a similar cannon, built by a local gunsmith not far from where I live.  It is stamped "J WINTERBOTTOM  MORRIS ILLS".  Winterbottom made both percussion rifles and shotguns.  It might have been something that a gunsmith built for his own amusement, rather than for a customer.

Thanks Curt ,I was told they would use small cannons like this back in the late 1800s early 1900s to hunt goose and ducks right from there boats or blinds  I dont know if that is true wonder if any one would know about that

it has some of the characteristics of a 'LYLE GUN'..used to shoot a line  to a faultering ship...
