I am preparing to cut out a capbox for a small percussion rifle. How should I attach a spring in order to keep the lid open/closed? I apologise if this is a rehash of another older topic. Many thanks for any information

On ones I've done or examined, the spring mounts with a machine screw to the underside of the finial, and must be bent to bear correctly on the cam of the lid.

Bill there are many publications that illustrate this device, as well as full sized plans from sources such as Track of the Wolf. The Purdy Rifle plan comes to mind. Swampwalker has it right, but a picture would describe it better. Investment....

Art is not an object. It is the excitement inspired by the object.
