New Fowler
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:57:46 PM »
I just got a neat little fowler barrel from GB.
It is .50 cal.   31" long, 15/16" at the breech and 11/16 at the muzzle.
I have a nice piece of walnut, just waiting for a home.
I would like to make it flint, but am open to ideas.
I am guessing, that I would be looking for a "beckey lock"
I realize that the barrel is too short to make a traditional long gun, but it is so light, it is just asking to make a short and handy squirrel gun, or rabit gun as well.
Please help me with some ideas and design.
All the best!
Fred

I built a mini trade gun around a 32in long .45 cal. smooth bore, really petite oct-rd barrel from John Getz. I used a Cambers little round faced English lock. Total weight 5 lbs. 11.5 in lop to fit my grand sons, and grand daughter when she gets a bit bigger. I was rather concerned it might be a bit of a hand full with a sensible deer hunting load, but surprisingly it's not bad at all.  BJH
