I'm trying to make a Navy Arms 1803 more authentic for a friend who is a reenactor. I'm making a few minor stock modifications and installing a decent rear sight. The stock wood has nice grain, but is clearly stained. I don't know if I can touch up the reworked stock areas without making them stand out. The other option is to scrape the stock down to remove all of the old stain and restain the whole thing. This doesnn't seem to be a big deal since the stain doesn't go very deep. Do any of you folks have tips on what kind to stain to use?
