My new 40 cal

I got my Larry Callahan mold a few days ago. Went to the range today and got my new 40 cal. I just finished about a month ago dialed in. What a tack driver! 3 rounds at 25yds look like 1 round from a 45cal. This is my 1st 40cal and my 1st swamped rifle (that I own), have built some for others

I also have a .40cal and its very accurate as well...they're pretty economical to shoot too

Sounds good so far - 25 yards, I find, is good for roughing in the sights but tells very little as to a load's actual accuracy.

Have you shot it at 50 yards yet?

It's really nice when things come together - several of us here have .40's too.  We use .395" cast pure lead balls or larger as in .398" to .400", along with thicker patching as well.

Experimentation is more than 1/2 the fun.

I've got an A-weight Rice .40 x 46" in the cabinet. Should make a nice slender rifle. Sure glad to hear yours shoots so well. ;)

I was shooting a larger ball to begin with but the patches where too thin, and I've had a problem with thin patches burning or getting cut. I shot it at 100 yds and still a great group but a bit to the right. I'm still in the dial in process. I don't see why this caliber is illegal in so many states for deer hunting. The shot placement is more critical maybe but they SHOOT.

Probably some sort of ball weight/kinetic energy calculation on the part of the state DNRs.  They don't have a figure for the individual velocity so probably take some averages out of manuals or something
