puckle defense gun

i seen on another site a flintlock machine gun made by james puckle in 1718 from london..very interesting firearm.does anyone know of any still in existance???

There are at least two of them...One is in the Royal Armouries collection (formerly at the Tower in London, now in Leeds) and the other is in Russia, I forget in what museum but perhaps in the Kremlin Armory.

They are much bigger than you would think looking at pictures of them.

Hi Lew,
According to Howard Blackmore, there are at least 3 guns in existence.  An iron gun and a brass gun are in the Tower of London, and a brass gun is in the Tojhusmusset in Copenhagen.  The gun was not a success but 2 were carried on a British naval expedition in 1727.  Nothing was mentioned about their use in the expedition's log.  The brass gun in the Tower is a flintlock but the other 2 known to exist are ignited by match (like cannons of the time).  Their bores range from 1.2-1.6 inches.

Hi Lew,
You'll notice in the patent drawing that it shoots round and square bullets.  The round ones were for christians and the square ones for Turks and moslems. Maybe Puckle was thinking of maketing the gun to the Austrians.
