Recent Southern Banded

Here's a Southern Banded horn I recently completed.



The base is turned plum wood with an applied cherry button for strap attachment.  Both the plum base and cherry button were stained with aqua fortis.  The applied tip is a one piece turned elk antler.  For finishing, the horn was first dyed with RIT yellow.  I then applied potassium permanganate followed with a dark walnut oil base stain selectively rubbed off.  Finally, I used a bit of black powder tempura paint for dirt and grunge.



Here's the horn again with a strap woven by Kris Polizzi.  I thought this strap by Kris was a good match with the horn.  Comments are always welcome.

Thanks Scott and Tim, I did like the way this one came out.  When I trial fitted the bands on the horn, I realized that I had turned the base plug just a tad too small in diameter.  It looked all out of proportion with the bands.  So I turned another base and button which fit the proportions better.  Now I have an extra base plug looking for a horn to go on...

Another nice horn Scott!
I am in need of a new horn.
I want to keep the last horn you made me for special events and display.
I just love it too much and would be hurt if I damaged it while hunting.
