Old knife

Not sure the purpose of this old knife.  Interested in ideas?  Heavy blade is 9".

I have some kitchen knives made like that so my knuckles don't bang into the board (Shun Alton Angles). Maybe its a butchers knife for cutting on a block.

Kinda what I was thinking too.  But could it be a crude hunting knife.

Blade looks a little thin for a froe but it certainly looks like a hand forged blade with the ring to insert the wooden handle for a a handy butcher knife.....longer handle ya got a spear....... :o ;D

This is the one I want..be on the lookout Suzkat!!

Thats an interesting.knife .. Pre 1800?
 The ring is a ferrule and seperate from the blade. It appears to be a mix of brass and steel...strange.  might be pewter or lead in the end of the ferrule. Tang is through handle and bent over.

Offset grips were pretty common on knives in Spanish territories. I agree that one looks like it might have been reshaped for some other purpose.

Knife in hand it does not look like the blade was reshaped.  The top end retains
original patina and the spear point has a double bevel.  Blade thickness tapers
consistently from hilt to tip.  Not saying it wasn't, just saying in natural light without
flash it looks alot different.
