As a side note... This rifle project is in honor of my father who's currently still living but has terminal lung cancer. Just found out a few minutes ago that the doctor says no more chemo because he's not strong enough to handle it. They're going to let the cancer run his course.

I'm planning on photographing the build and sharing the project with him in the weeks ahead.

Full stock percussion without a hooked breach having a 1" straight barrel?

Look at Track's Leman.  Not a Hawken but still a Plains type rifle and will be easier for a first build.

Enjoy, J.D.

hi J.D.,
I looked at the Leman. Seems like it's about the only other option for the stock I've got since the barrel channel is already cut. Yours is a good suggestion. I'd be smart to take it, but the Hawken has caught my fancy... Sigh. It's like trying to decide which girl to take to the dance--the pretty one or the one that knows how to cook and milk the cows. Grin!

Okay guys,

I placed my order this morning.

Again, many MANY thanks for your insight.

I hope I'm not back with too many questions and that by the end of summer I'll have a finished rifle worthy of display here for you to see.

Aloha,
