Wet blanket - looks contemporary to me, stock architecture about of lock, for one thing, flash shield, wrist-comb area.
My thoughts too.  It reminds me of rifles made by R O Wilson in NW Ohio maybe Van Wert.  He attended shoots in NE Indiana and NW Ohio in the 70's and 80's and before.  His rifles were covered in inlays and when I first saw the pictures he came right to mind.  It would be nice to see one to compare it to this rifle. This could have been a parts gun with the silver added.  The box and deer seem to stand proud of the wood where the silver is flush.  The patina on the lock and barrel seem to indicate more age than the stock wood.  It is a very nice rifle.
