Its been awhile since I posted any pictures and I thought you might like this one. Its a NE style fowler I made with a 56in. long Rayle barrel and a Davis lock. Anyone have a step ladder?

Nate, just back up a little more, and you can stand on the stone wall to load that fowler! However, I imagine these were loaded in a fairly horizontal position, in a punt boat, or in the rushes.

I have seen a number of originals that diagonally spliced the forestock on just after the entry thimble. I think this was more the norm than not, with economy of labor and material.

I like the folk art carving a lot. Thanks for posting.

(For all of you guys out there that don't know Nate, he's actually 6'2", that should give you an idea of how long this gun

Actually I dig a hole for the butt where ever I load it.  Now I have ended up with several butt holes! ;D

This is way cool.  I remember building a 51" barrel longrifle I had a heck of a time finding a piece of wood for my project. Most precut stock blanks arnt going to work.

Bore is .7258in.
Breech-1.4045in.
Entry thimble- 1.114in.
3rd thimble- .971in.
2nd thimble- .854in.
1st thimble- .853in.
Muzzle-  .8435in.
It is surprisingly well balanced with the balance point about four in. behind the entry thimble- right where you hold it to shoot. Weight is 12.4 lbs. on the digital bathroom scales. I'll have it at my table at Dixon's unless someone buys it first.

Gee! I forgot to show the lock. Here it is. The hardest part was looking for a ramrod. I had to make it from a blank.
