jug choker!!
« on: July 06, 2012, 02:09:40 AM »
Gentlemen,

I'm in need of having a barrel jug choked again.  Last time, Ed Hamburg did and excellent job for me, but alas, his email doesn't seem to be working.  Not sure if he's still available for the service.

I have a 10ga, that I need jugged to a modified choke.

Who do you use!?!?!?
In His grip,

Dane

Dan55, Do you do jug choking?   I have one to be done in the near future.   I had Lowell Tennyson (sp) do one a few years ago and have since lost his contact info.  I think Mike Brooks knows him.

Bill D, no I don't. I sent  contact information for Mike Orlen in Mass. He is a wizard with modern shotgun barrels. I don't know why he could'nt do muzzleloader barrels as well.

I have a Caywood english game gun that Danny jug choked full for me and it shoots great. I would suggest him very much.  I understand Mr tennyson does great work too, though I've never shot a gun that he has worked on but I do have his # or at least it was good a while back. Its 563-381-3711

I was told that the way to do one was to use a break cylinder hone or one of the ball hones and lots of cutting fluid. By blocking the travel of the hone progressively you will remove the amount of material needed to make the portion of the barrel you want jug choked as you wish. I have one that I need to do just haven't gotten around to it yet. I picked up one of the hones from the Auto parts store and played around with a couple original ML shot guns that had some light frosting rust in the bores. It worked great to clean them up. I was going to try one of the ball hones for my project due to the bore being just a little too small for the break hone I have. Here is what Brownell's shows:http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/cid=0/k=barrel+hone/t=P/ksubmit=y/Products/All/search=barrel_hone

The brake cylinder hones will work just fine as that is how I jugged my little .44 smoothbore. I removed only a few thousndths and it still shot round ball very well. I managed to hit 10 straight on 16 yard trap with it at Rendezvous one year, then a friend had to have it so it left me. 1/2 ounce shot, cards and cut down.410 wad and 45gr. 2F.
