This the pan plate on the side of an Arquebus bbl for the little swinging cover to screw to. The touchhole has to get drilled eventually, plus a pan recess gets milled/drilled/chiseled.

I think that's what this is, anyway. Great work, Rasz.

This is the same way that pans were joined to barrels on Spanish Matchlocks. The chisel work is well illustrated in Practical Blacksmithing. by M T Richardson.

I don't know much about the Arkebuz but is that a hole in the bottom of the pan?  Does it go all the way through?  Why is there a hole in the bottom of the pan?

Hi,
Very nice Raszpla.  I like the early snapping matchlocks.  Thanks for showing how to dovetail the pan.  I will be doing that on a future project.  I like button operated snapping matchlocks and I think they were still popular for target guns long after the matchlock was obsolete.  I believe japanese matchlocks are also button operated.

I love it, There is no inside of the lock, only external parts. Elegant and simple. The slide lock on the Serpentine must have been a delicate weld to take, like making chain out of heavy wire. The pay-off is that the gunner will never lose it.
