I got the new to me flintlock working
« on: July 11, 2012, 02:45:01 AM »
Several months ago I bought a flintlock that was broken and needed some tlc. Whoever built it about 36 years ago did some very fine inletting and layout but a poor job getting some of the parts to work together right. It has a Hamm lock and the sear was chipped so I had to weld it up, shape and fit it then harden it.
The triggers were causing the problem and the front trigger wouldnt work as a single trigger and the hammer couldnt be let down from battery.Someone had ground down the trigger till it wouldn't touch the sear. I welded a tab onto the top of the trigger and filed it to fit so that I now have a single and double set trigger and a lock that will go to half and   full cock and I am able to let it down. I took it out today and with my own cast r/b, and .014" pillow ticking patch wsw fluid for lube and starting at 55 gr3F and moving up to 70gr 3F. It shot 10 balls into 1.25" at 50 yards off the bench. By the way its a 45 cal. This is preety good as I'm having a hard time seeing the sights and that is the next thing I will change. All in all a great day, the sun was shining, wind was low, temp was perfect and I'm a happy man.Its really great to get a project done that I had doubts about when I began. FRJ :)

It sure makes you feel good when you finish a project and everything works don't it? ;D
