I think this would be fun to try, but it's way to far for me to travel.  Wasn't there a YouTube video floating around with some action from one of these type events?

Muzzleblasts has a big spread on Primitive Biathalon this month. I'd love to participate in one or a dozen, but trying to schedule a snowfall in SW Ohio isn't a winning proposition.

I shot in the Smuggler's Notch Biathalon a few years ago and it was a lot of fun.  I was a little intimidated by just how serious the competitors might be, but there was a broad spectum of individuals involved.  If you're serious, you can be serious and see just how you compare, or you can relax and just enjoy...

I followed a trail of "stuff"...caps, knife a piece of fur...finally met up with a young boy from NH headed back down the trail looking for his knife.  He was escorting his father as a spare ram rod packer.   I ended up walking and talking with another starter in front of me comparing how sore our butts were.      There's something for everyone.

I just wish it wasn't so darn far to drive.

I got to shoot at Smugglers Notch a couple of years ago.  David Price and his life long friend Russell took me there one weekend while I was out at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for work.  It was one of the best shooting events I have ever attended.  If I lived in New England I would be a regular at all the biathlon's.  William is right, those guys are serious competitors.   A hearty bunch of woodsmen, and women.  If you have a chance to participate do not pass it up.  You won't be disappointed.

I've been participating in Primitive Biathlons for over 10 years now. Started with Smugglers and now try to get to them all. They are great fun! My kids love them, and my wife [a former non-shooter] was intrigued enough to try it and now she goes too! Please don't think you have to be an athlete or serious competitor to enjoy them; nothing could be further from the truth. If you like to shoot and are able to walk on snowshoes you'll have a great time.   Rick

When I went, I stayed in one of Sterling Ridge's cabins.  I don't recall seeing anyone camping, but I didn't check out the whole place.

And do buy one of the local Boy Scout troop cans of "Roadkill Stew" if they are selling it again this year.   But I wouldn't recommend eating it.  I was in scouts.  We were capable of anything.  It's liable to be what it says it is.
