Got bored (UPDATED and FINISHED)
« on: July 21, 2012, 06:58:02 PM »
I had a Saturday that I could get out in the shop and do some work, but this is one of those days that making another powder horn just didn't work for me, so I decided to burn out some containers since my stock is down on them anyway. Here is some of the $#@* I made wasting time this morning. (I fixed the photos for you. Dennis)

Looks good Tim. I love making little thingies out of scrap. No real HC or PC objects, just usefull items that many of the ladies go crazy over. I usually barter with many of these. That or put them up as auction or blanket prizes. Either way they seem to dissapear all too fast. I never seem to have any around when I need them.

I have a great time turning horn scraps into little containers not much bigger than cap boxes--intended use, to hold charcloth in a fireworks kit. Really fine way to spend a rainy morning. And yes, folks seem to like 'em. I usually give them away. Those and flint wallets. Nice little projects.

Folks, Thank you all for the nice comments, I do appreciate it. I just like messing around with this stuff to see what I can come up with a little different than what I have done before....I have a neat idea for a horn, too many hours sitting in equipment with my mind running free.
Mark, I will engrave all of them except for the small dark one, they will get dyed with the exception of the one on the far right, I think some polychrome will look good on that one and left white, even though I do not like white horns.
Dennis, thanks for fixing my picture.

Really neat Tim, great design on the bases and caps, original. You have just solved my problem of what to do with all the cut offs I have. Let's see them when they are finished up.

I decided to go with a polychrome engraving on the bigger white container, here is what I put on it, just thought I would stick a picture up for you to see.

Real nice Tim.  I think I'll try to do one for Mrs.   Working on my first engraved horn for my son's
18th BDay.  I'll think about sharing it when I'm done if it's not too embarassing.  Already disappointed
because I scrimmed it too deep.  I like the light/fine appearance better.  Live and learn.  Will you be
at Mountain Craft Days?

Some of you all asked for finished pictures, so here ya go. Not much to look at, but it helped keep my fingers busy for the last week or so.. The 2 on the ends are polychrome, but it just didn't turn out as clear as I wanted it to. Before and after, scroll down
