old saw ID
« on: September 03, 2012, 01:24:36 AM »
Can anyone ID this saw for its age? Not shure if it is medical or otherwise. Thank you for any help.

I have seen them listed as medical saws on E-bay.  I have one just like it.

I think its an early hacksaw. Lancashire pattern circa early 19th century.

T. C. pretty well nailed it.  I would add it would be considered a Lancastershire style saw frame.  What the saw was used for would determine the blade used.
kind regards, heinz

Thank you for the information and replies.
Photo bucket wasn't working yesterday but this should come through. Also an additional link to a similar one with a shorter blade (and frame).
Was this "style" being made here in the states as well?

I don't know if it was being made commercially, but I've seen several shop-made hacksaws of this or similar patterns.
