Full Size Drawings of Antique Guns by Jack Brooks
« on: September 05, 2012, 06:15:54 AM »
Jack Brooks has begun offering some of his full size drawings for sale.... this is a fantastic opportunity for builders and students of antique arms.  I am helping Jack get the word out and have posted an ad for Jack in the classified forums.  Anyone interested should go take a look here:

Many of Jack's students are members of ALR and I think most would agree on what a fabulous resource the drawings are.

Thanks,
Curtis

I like Jack alot but $75.00 for a set of drawings is a little steep.

Who qualifies as a student?

From my understanding, anyone who has taken a class from Jack Brooks as long as he has been teaching is considered one of his students, as far as the student rate goes.   If you are not certain if you would qualify as one of his students, I would recommend contacting Jack for more information.

Thanks,
Curtis

It's a free market, and he can ask wants. But, I don't think he'll get many orders at that price.
Knob Mountain , muzzelloader building supplies and other internet suppliers have great blue prints a for $15 a print.

Best regards

I won't speak to the price, but these are very detailed drawings with exact measurements for everything the entire length.  They're an excellent resource, and I don't think comparable to any drawings/prints I've found else where.  As a student, I ordered all three....

Houston Harrison was charging nine dollars and change for his full size drawings.  That, of course was back in the '90's.  But I don't think inflation has been that bad.

OK guys, this was posted for your information.  If you want to discuss the utility of drawings, something specific about them, etc, feel free.  This gunbuilding forum is not the place to debate pricing of goods.  Please just vote with your wallet.

I received Jack's first three drawings in the mail this weekend and thought I would add something here.  First I would like to say thanks to Rich for his posting, and add that I am only providing information and receive no gain financial or otherwise from the sale of these drawings.  The following statements are my opinions, and as such they are just opinions and I don't consider them any more right or wrong than anyone else's opinions.

To me, a drawing is a tool, and like any other tool, only the individual can decide what they are willing or able to pay for that particular tool.  I want to make it clear that I am not disrespecting any available drawings out there, whether you create them, market them or just own them.  Some of the plans commonly available are generic to a school of building or based off of contemporary work.  There is nothing wrong with either, and they can be of great value depending on your needs.

Are Jack's drawings inexpensive? Probably not to the average person reading this.  Are they a good value?  If you are wanting to build specific gun or rifle, one that is architecturally and dimensionally correct based on an original antique, that is often unpublished and/or unavailable for study elsewhere, they are a bargain.

Thanks for looking,

Curtis
