Heavy Dragoon Pistol--need help finishing
« on: September 28, 2012, 07:56:55 PM »
Hey folks,
Finally am getting settled in from being reassigned by the Air Force after my deployment and getting back to some projects.  I bought a pistol kit a while ago and think I got in over my head.  I need some help getting it in "the white" phase.  The Barrel, lock and trigger have all been inlet.  Need help with the rest.  The trigger guard, ramrod tubes, thumb and side plates need to be put on.  The brass butt plate also needs fitted.  I can take it from here with the finishing and aging. Have tried to read up on "how to's" but need to be shown as far as this is concerned.  Absent of an instruction here, I am hoping to find someone that can get this nearer to completion without breaking the bank.  Either that, or need to find a resource to do it on my own--not sure how that will turn out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Carl

I highly recommend American Pioneer Video's Building a Flintlock Kentucky Pistol
with Mike Miller.

Hello Carl,

I can give you the phone number of a Guy in my area who would be very capable of doing what you need.  Let me know if you want it via PM.

Ron Scott.

Carl,

I have built a pair of the English dragoon pistols and the only part that was a real pain was the butt cap.  These pistols were built from TRS parts and the tines of the butt caps were so thick that I could not bend them out to inlet the caps in the usual way.  I had to start at the lower end of the butt and work them a little at a time into place.  Based on what you are saying, with the barrel, lock, and trigger in place, the rest of the parts are fairly easy to inlet...except the butt cap, in my experience.
