New York State Mark Matteson Gun Smith.
« on: November 09, 2012, 06:46:02 PM »
I am trying to locate a Mark Matteson who is or maybe was a gunsmith from New York. He had a shop in the seventies and made one @!*% fine rifle. Anybody in this forum ever hear of him or if he is still alive. I believe he would be around 70 now. I think the town was near Cherry Valley, NY or at least in that area. Or even if the family is still around that section of the state. I have three of his guns, all made for the same guy, and I would like to meet the man who made them if he is still around. They wrote two articals about him and his work in Muzzle Blast Magizine back in the early seventies. Any help out there?

I googled his name and found a gunsmith by the name of Mark S. Matteson in Grass Valley, California.

If I remember correctly, Mark was profiling Douglas barrels into neat Jager barrels.   I think he also made some real nice
swivel breech units.   Later on he made some brass compass/sundial things, real neat stuff..........Don

Their are quite folks with that last name in the Cherry Valley/Springfield area of NY.

Also the people that make the sundial I know personally and they live there too. The sundial I believe is the one Track sells or someone else.

They used to have a re-enactment there but have not done it in years.

Hi Tinstar,

The one I am looking for bought a farm off the beatin path near the town or village of Canajoharie. One story said his address was in Fultonville, NY. but I don't know if that was before or after he bought his farm. Does that help any?
