Miles Mark, 19th century Illinois gunsmith
« on: November 30, 2012, 04:47:36 AM »
Miles Mark, a gunsmith in Olena, Illinois, was born in Kentucky in the 1790's and was making guns in Illinois in the mid nineteenth century. Does anyone know of the existence of a gun made by Mark and/or have a photo of the same? My interest lies in the fact that he is a great grandfather many times removed and I would be interested in seeing an example of his work if any still exists. Thanks.

Curt Johnson will know.   He is the author of books on Illinois gunsmith. If he doesn't respond to this topic in a day or so I will contact him .  Jim

I wish I knew of a signed rifle by Miles Mark, but I don't.  He is listed as a gunsmith in Henderson County, Illinois, in the 1850 census, but I imagine you have all of that.  He died Feb. 7, 1852, and was referred to in his death notice as "an old and highly respected citizen".
