Thanks for the comments guys.....this rifle is a consignment piece for the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio.
There are quite a few things I like about the rifle, there are some things I don't like about the rifle, there are some things I wish I would have approached differently and some things that were out of my control.
I like the color, the curl is very nice, I like the way the triggergaurd came out and the way the shape mimicks the tang. I also like the way I folded the buttplate over at the toe and the way the buttplate tapers off at the heel. It cannot be seen in the pictures, but the thimbles, though rather plain, are alligned so that the entry thimble is long, the middle somewhat short and the one by the muzzle long (but not as long as the entry thimble) and I did so to break up monotony, sort of like a dashed line. I thought it would add interest. I also like the profile of the sideplate, just enough for interest, but not to guawdy.
Dave Kutcher and I laid out the profile on the blank and right off we could both see that due to the way it was initially cut, we would have ended up with a ten inch trigger pull!! We both surmized the issue, made adjustments and decided to go with it. The worse that could happen was the stock would have been fireplace fodder. After speaking with Liza at the Cabin, she told us to give a go and not worry too much. All in all, I think it worked out. I needed to do some tweaking with the placement of the trigger and the relationship to the sear, but truthfully, it holds very well, the triggerpull is very comfy and it points well. The triggerpull is a very nice gentle squeeze and then she trips, which I like.
Some things I wish I should have done: lop off a few inches from the barrel to reduce a bit of wieght and make the width of the buttplate just a tad bit wider.
Overall, I'm happy with it.
