I just used a modified siler mountain lock on a gun and it seemes to be a very good lock, i think it uses the same internals as the small siler flint. Iv never had a l&r percussion lock so i cant compare the two  but i know chambers has a much better warranty

I use the Siler mountain lock and the Davis Goulcher locks.  I have used more of the Davis lock than the Siler because of the plate being very much like the ones a couple original rifles I own.  I have had no issues with either of these.  The Siler is cut for a 1/2 inch drum and doesn't work well for me if I am using anything smaller than a 7/8 across the flats barrel.  The Davis lock is available without the drum cut, and I use that configuration and cut it for a smaller drum for the 13/16 and 3/4 barrels.

I had a gun I loved but it was a "dreaded" caplock using the Siler Mountain lock. I wanted a flint so I got a small Siler flint kit and converted the percussion mountain lock into a flintlock. That was about 20 years ago and as I remember, it looked very nice.

I have one of those squirrel engraved plate percussion locks I believe was made by Davis. It has been in my parts bin for quite a few years and since bit by the flintlock bug may be there a while. I remember a member here built a very nice southern rifle around one of these and showed it off a long time ago.

I've never used a Siler Mountain lock but I plan to eventually. I have used L&R's percussion lock that has the same plate profile as their Late English flintlock on a Bean rifle and was happy with it. I've also used their Manton and Egg percussion locks too, all of them were left handed. I am partial to L&R because they don't neglect us left handed shooters. Out of all of their locks, I like the little Manton lock the best.

I like the L&R Manton also, and I have used the Siler Mountain lock to. The Siler has some room around the plate to modify it's  profile shape some if you want to.
