Our Sunday shoot.
« on: March 07, 2013, 04:34:56 AM »
Roger and Taylor and a couple of others post pictures of their shoots. I thought I would finally show our bunch of renegades. Our group is called the "Malheur River Trappers". We are from SW Idaho and Eastern Oregon. We shoot the first Sunday of the month at high noon rain shin or high winds. November thru May. We mostly shoot Smooth Bores but all are welcome if they can take the teasing about scratches in the barrel and sights. We each put on a meal for the season cooked mostly over the fire and lots of hot coffee. Good times for a dedicated bunch of Flintlock Shooters which we nearly have everyone converted from cap guns. Great photo......looks and sounds like you all have some great fun.  Is there a particular reason that the smoothies are favored by your group?

Cash,
I wish I knew the answer to that. A lot of it is the age and fading eyesite I think. I personally like to shoot a rifle. However some of the targets we have set up are great for the smoothy's. I also enjoy shooting trap with a flintlock, it is quite a challenge. All good times and we have another group that shoot rifles, they shoot on the 3rd Saturday of each month so it works out fine. We burn a lot of powder a year. Bob

That's a great shot of your group!  Nice to see a mix of young, old, male and female.  Shooting BP is definitely a social thing, or at least is at its best under those circumstances.  Not much snow and green-up just around the corner too.

Keep 'em coming.

Most of the guys are shooting smoothbores, front sight only.   That way, if you're not a good shot and do a lot of missing, you
can always say, "heck, it's only a smoothbore, and it only has one sight, what do you expect?"   But, it's still fun to see that
big puff of smoke.........Don
