Sideplate & Thumbpiece KY/PA Pistol

Is the sideplate on a KY/PA pistol "proud" on the off side, or fully inletted? And is the tumbpiece flat, or "proud?" (I want the the flat brass versions, not the ones with fancy castings.)

I want to replicate a KY/PA flint pistol era 1780 - 1820. I've looked through the ALR Archives, especially in the "PA Short Arms" section, but to me it is unclear if these items are fully inletted.

If I make a thumbpiece from brass stock, how thick should it be?

The side plat is either flush with the panel or inletted part way depending on the origional maker of the pistol. .040 will be fine for the thumbpiece. BJH
