Roger, If you have anyone that does stained glass work in your area they will have a product that they use to blacken solder.  Stained glass workers are often women, so you might get a twofer...:>)   Ron

I've used Birchwood Casey's Brass Black.
She works on brass, silver, steel and solder.

If the solder has silver in it, it should blacken with the above mentioned chems.

Try burning a little black powder, (outside, roger) and then mixing the residue with a little water to color the metal.

I have this problem!! I must move and change out  a front sight on a smoothbore. the barrel is slightley swamped an I put it no too far forward. I have filed it to a nub and can not egt point of impact up enought( no I do not want to bend the barrel) I want the sight lower in the swamp and to hide the old solder job  Help   Ken

Ken,  If the sight is simply soldered on it should be no problem removing it with heat and cleaning up barrel in that location before reinstalling it back farther.  Enjoy, J.D.

Try putting a new higher rear sight.

Experience with him shootin in his/our SB matches this smoothie has no such thing as a rear sight... ;D
