Some old work showed up
« on: February 02, 2013, 12:42:19 AM »
A friend brought a couple of rifles by that I built about 20 years ago and thought I'd share a couple of photos of each.
The first is a copy of a Nathaniel Vogler, Salem, NC

I don't know who you are, but that's a nice gun!

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Nice! If this is 20 years ago, what does now look like?

I seem to have lost the patience to produce work like the ones shown. Have had numerous requests but have only produced a couple of rifles since then. Still gunsmithing though, full time, but mostly modern stuff. Still have a hankering for an English caplock though. Even made the barrels on the two rifles shown in the two topics and they both shot real well. Even though I don't do this anymore I still love these things and have a deep respect for the hands that create the works of art I see on this forum.

Beautiful work ;D
