No wonder my back is still shot.
When I got mine,,more than a few years ago, I carried them into the house, down the stairs into the basement and put them up onto their benches myself.
I did strip them down as far as I dared,,took the head off of the mill and the tailstock off the lathe, ect.
The lathe took me more than a few tries to get it up onto it's bench, which I made a little higher than normal so I wouldn't have to stoop over to use it.
I did spring for a larger mill vise and am glad I did. I don't know what you call it but it rotates and then can be locked into position once it's fixed jaw is indicated parallel. A lot heavier than the drill press type, longer clamping jaws and makes working on bbls and things like that much easier.
A 1" headstock hole is nice,,mine is a smaller dia and wished more than once for the larger spec. But it's probably steared me away from some projects I shouldn't have gotten in to anyway!
You learn to use what you have. I recently made up an 8ga shotshell rim recess cutter and then used it to cut the rim recesses on a newly made and fitted extractor for a WC Scott set of bbls.
All done on the little lathe and mill/drill. Cutting done on the mill with the blank extractor in place in bbls.
My setups are both 'Jet' tagged and haven't have any problems with them in over 20yrs of use.
