A Little Different Shaped Horn
« on: March 01, 2013, 04:11:13 PM »
The idea for this horn came from one on pg 44 of Grant’s Powder Horns and Their Architecture. I took the liberty of adding three more steps to the body and the thimble.
It is 8 ½” around the outside curve, the Pine base is about 1 ½”, held in with 9 steel pins, with a handmade nail for the strap. A Brass thimble protects the tip. Finish is AF and Brown shoe polish.

Tim,
I like it, but what happened to what you've always told me about going too contemporary?

Tim,

Rich, the idea for this horn came from a small horn on pg 44 of Grant’s Powder Horns and Their Architecture.
I took the liberty of adding three more steps to the body. As for the thimble, they are not uncommon especially to repair a cracked tip.
I should have put this in my OP, I will add it.

   Thanks, Tim C.

Tim,
I have always liked that horn in Madison's book.  You pulled it off very well.  Great job!

Different but I like it ;D
Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning
