Barrel pin/underlug mistake need some advice
« on: April 24, 2013, 12:47:26 AM »
I hit the other 2 lugs fine, the last one closest to the muzzle hit halfway on/halfway off, kind of a semicircle hole. :-[
I think the bit drifted or something. ???

Anyways I was thinking hitting the lug with a quick spot weld, file and re-drill. I will have to remove a very small bit of wood in the lug slot for it to fit as it will be a bit deeper.

Any other ideas ? Will the barrel be ok with a quick weld on the lug or is there another fix ? I don't want to re-drill the stock.

Can you replace the lug?? Fold up a piece of .03brass or steel.. simple...

Just my thoughts

Make a new (deeper) lug and redrill. Just make sure you don't get so deep that it protrudes into the rr channel.

You could carve a plug from the same chunk of wood and glue it in existing hole and redrill. The plug will be almost invisible when stained.

That's what I ended up doing. I made a lug just a bit deeper where the hole was drilled so the pin had some material to go thru, it worked. I guess I got a bit rattled and didn't think it thru for the fix.

Thanks for all of your help.  :)
