Barrel underlugs

How much time do you spend making them super neat and good looking?  Were the originals really neat or just functional?  I just spent a bunch of time with the first one on a rifle I am building.  Probably could have cut an hour in file work and ended up with just a just as solid and functional underlug.  Is it worth the time and effort to make them look really nice?

I've seen both neat and not so neat on originals.Mine are pretty neat but don't take that long to do.I use a chisel to curl up both sides then a small fuller to tighten on the lug.The dovetail is between .020 and .030 deep depending on where on the barrel it is.I think it's worth the time to do neat work.

I try to make them as good as I can .After all ,the sights are very visible and the barrel lugs are good practice.  Bill

Didn't mean to make it sound like I am taking shorcuts or lazy.  The rifle I am building is a straight 7/8" .45 caliber.  Thin web between the barrel and rr groove (3/16 at most).  I'm cutting the underlugs .050.  The underlugs will not stand proud of the bottom flat because I want the pins right against it.  Just questioning how much work I should put into making the lugs look like they "grew" out of the barrel.  I filed and finished the first one untill you can hardly see the lines.  Then started thinking "Is it really worth the extra time"?
