Horn/W Four Bands
« on: March 22, 2013, 07:18:39 PM »

It is about 13 ½” around the outside curve. The 2 ¼” Apple base is hollowed out about 3/4 its lenght and is held by the same 4 steel pins that hold the base band on. The Whitetail antler tip is two part pinned together with 3 pins and to the neck with 3 more. The bands were heated and pressed on then pinned. The finish is AF with Brown shoe polish over it.

Very nice Tim. I too have taken to using AF to color my horns. I believe this is probably the most common method that would have been used at the time. I'm sure there were many other stains but this gives me the color that I think matches the originals.

Yup,gotta agree, that's one fine horn! I'm not a fan of banded horn's at all. This one has kinda changed my mind a bit. Surprising because it has all the thing's besides the band's I dont care for either, applied spout in antler, and the bee hive butt cap.

It seems to have a really pleasing balance in all the element's designed into it. I could even see me carrying this one!

Great job!
