MUSEUM VISITOR CENTER
Learn about the basic components of the longrifle and how they work
together to make both a functional weapon and decorative art form. The American
Longrifle (also known as the Kentucky Longrifle) an icon of the American
frontier, is shrouded in myths and legends. This presentation will highlight factual
history alongside widely accepted myths.

MUSEUM VISITOR CENTER
Longrifles have been produced in America for three centuries. The
presentation will examine regional variations found in these weapons from New England
to the Carolinas. Longrifles still survive in great numbers, but owners don't always
know the best way to care for them. Learn proper handling and care as well as simple
conservation techniques.

Alan Gutchess has been involved in the study, restoration and
recreation of American Longrifles for over 30 years. Alan has worked as a gunsmith both
privately and in museum settings, including Colonial Williamsburg. His particular
interest is in the history and development of this unique art form.
