B. Losey
« on: April 14, 2013, 06:13:11 PM »
A friend of mine just bought a half stock percussion rifle the only markings on the gun was B. Losey on the barrel and on the inside of the lock B.F.A.  Co. The gun is a small bore and barrel  is only 24" long. Gun looks old but how old I don't know barrel is 1 1/2" across flats. I was wondering if anyone had heard of a gun maker named B. Losey thanks Joe

About 50 years ago I had a fine offhand hunting/target rifle marked
Losey&Lull,Auburn N.Y. I think it was about 50 caliber with walnut stock
and silver hardware.Single trigger as well.

Thanks for all of your replies. The rifle seems to be very well made but the small caliber and short heavy barrel 24" threw me off for it being a target gun when we get barrel cleaned enough we will see what the twist is of the riffling it looks like about 25 caliber maybe it was made for a bullet  not a round ball. Thanks alot for your help. Joe

Given the caliber and the very short barrel, is there any evidence that the gun may have been cut back? I'd tend to think it might once have been equipped with a false muzzle and never have been intended for small round pills.

Losey & Lull made barrels & stamped their names on them. Maybe rifles too, I disremember. Perhaps Timothy Losey or Rick Losey care to comment?
