2013 CLA auction rifle
« on: May 20, 2013, 05:09:32 PM »
The CLA auction rifle has been posted on the web site. An article on this project was in the May issue of Muzzle Blast and a very nice article on this project is in the June issue of the American Rifleman. Darrin and I were very proud to part of this project and I hope that it does well in the auction. The article was written by Mark Sage and the photography was by Ric Lambert. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Jim,
You and Darrin performed a terrific amount of quality work in a very short period of time.  Both of you should be very proud of your achievements.  That being said I can hardly wait For the opportunity to see the rifle in person!  Nice article also...

Thank you Curtis!! I am really happy that this gun turned out well enough to honor these two men that that set the stage for us many years ago. I would hope that if Mr. Sheetz or Mr. Ross picked it up, they would approve. That was the goal. Who ever ends up with this will truly end up with a piece that Jim, Robert  & I put our hearts into and became very fond of. I can say that I would be absolutely honored to own this gun, but I am sure that wont happen, I doubt I could afford it.

Darrin and Jim,
I just posted links to the article on your fine rifle in the topic above.  I plan to use my web site to cover each of the 2013 auction items.  I have seven of the items uploaded now.

My complements on your work.  I also saw the rifle covered in NRA's American Riflemen.
Regards,
Pletch

First off it's a real treat to see a rifle that is documented and puts names with events so folks of our time have a "real" connection to our history and "hobby" .
I can only add that your build looks AWESOME !
My compliments to both of you for your skills and talents.

This has also renewed my interest in the Battle of New Orleans.

Skip, you hit the nail on the head. Building this rifle, handling it, reading & rereading the inscription on the patchbox. Hearing & reading the history behind this battle made me realize that this was a serious pivotal 2 hours of pure organized insanity. I can only imagine how high the level of adrenaline must have been seeing 6000 British troops coming your way and knowing Bealse COy, Wm Ross and all of the American line only had 2000. The Brits just finished kicking Napoleon's army and the were battle hardened and ready. Absolutely astounding.

I, too, compliment you guys on the outstanding work you did on this rifle. I am familiar with most details of the Battle of New Orleans, but always enjoy reading anything about it. One of my ancestors was a participant (having joined Gen. Jackson on his journey through Mississippi). He had previously organized and led a local militia company, but had not experienced battle. I guess his interest in the military came from his father, whose leadership at the Battle of King's Mountain had earned him a sword presented by the legislature of North Carolina, as well as a monument and town named for him, after his death.
