Ed Rayl makes them and so does Charles Burton. Charles is a ALR member and his website/prices are here: http://www.fcibarrels.com/

Ed Rayl does not have a website but you can contact him here: W.E. Rayl, Box 91, Gassaway, W.V. 26624. Ph 304-364-8269

I have been told that John Getz also offers them. John's contact information is here:http://www.getzbarrelcompany.com/

There may be others but if there is, I am not familiar with them.

I can tell you now that either one of them will have a fair amount of wait time due to back log of orders.

Just ordered two 48 inch swamped barrels from Ed Rayl last Friday.  It will probably be a year wait time or more, depending.  His prices have gone up for the first time since 2007, but only $15 per barrel.  Anything over 48 inches, you have to add $10 or $15 per inch.  As I have stated before, the barrel you get will be worth the wait.

I ordered five from Charlie over a year ago. He said it would be six months.

Well, it was six months, and there they were, sitting on my porch.

I got a custom profile from John Getz a few years back that i'm still waiting to get to work on. It's a 50 Cal 1 inch at the breech. Inletted into a fine curly maple blank with the RR hole drilled. Can't hardly wait to get at it. But that one is for me and I've got a couple to build for other folks before I can get to it.

I'm not certain, but you might give Long Hammock a try.

I can also recommend Charlie.  He makes excellent barrels.  Bobby Hoyt too.

Sometimes ordering a barrel is a crapshoot. I ordered a 46" barrel from Ed Rayl a while back, and they were about to run that profile and such, so got it in less than 3 months. Remember, these are small businesses and demand is high, so waits are to be expected. About the only thing I've not had to wait for at some time is wood. Sometimes parts are on the shelf, sometimes you get in line.

It's not gonna get any better either.  Bobby Hoyt is semi-retired.  Although I think what that means is he just hunts more often now.  God knows, he's earned it.

With respect Kermit, I know Rayl is a small business and expected a wait, but you get a swamped barrel in 3 months and a plain .45 barrel takes more than 2 years for me? I find that hard to fathom.

Okie, just saying timing seems to play a part, is all. I stumbled into a time when a batch of what I was looking for was about to be run. I got lucky. I expect a lot of things are held at a better pricepoint by doing runs.

Okie, if it has been 2 years, I would give Ed a call, he could have misplaced your order.  He takes a lot of information on barrel orders at shows and then transfers them to his computer when he gets back to the shop.  He could have lost your order or not gotten it in his computer.  The longest I have waited for one of his barrels is about 18 months, but it was a 50 inch special build and he had to wait to get the blank long enough to build it.  For straight barrels, you should only have to wait about a year.  As someone else said, he is a specialty shop and he is a "one man show", and like others, he likes to take some time off and he likes to attend a lot of shows and trade fairs.  He only builds a little over 300 barrels a year and has that many in waiting at all times.  Hope you get your barrel soon.

Well, I did call some months ago and was told that he had my order. Please understand I am not criticizing Ed, I am not complaining that some things require waiting, I am only saying that according to my experience it might take a long time to get one of these barrels. From the comments though, it would seem that my experience is not typical.
So, my barrels will probably be ready tomorrow, but I went ahead and bought that Bill Large barrel just in case.

No harm done and none intended boys, but I think everyone is up to date on custom barrel availability and variability of wait times. If any have info on others custom barrel makers who can meet the specs in this topic, lets hear it, but lets not further recount or rehash our experiences with the ones already discussed.  We'd hate to be the straw that breaks a fine barrel maker's back.

I'd give him another call, just to see if the order has been lost or misplaced.
