dickert rifle
« on: June 03, 2013, 07:14:56 PM »
A Dickert type rifle based on RCA 48. Siler lock, Rice 37" .50 caliber barrel. Handmade patchbox, trigger and plate, side plate, thimbles and nosecap. It was a lot of fun and a lot of help from you guys on the forum. I did not do so good importing the pictures, sorry for the repeats and no shows.

Your carving is very clean; your background removal and leveling is exquisite.

It looks like you had a bit of trouble with your nosecap, looks a little bulbous at the muzzle end.  (I feel your pain. I go thru that every stinking nose cap.)

Entry pipe, you did a fine job. ( which I also struggle with )

Very nice workmanship all around!

Tom, I think the bulbous nosecap may be a slight optical illusion (sorta like my paycheck).....wonder if it would look the same with the ramrod removed.....

Absolutely beautiful piece.  My compliments.   ;D

Times have sure changed. Gun control used to mean keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction

Thanks for the nice comments. The nosecap does bulge, its not a optical illusion. I allways have a bit of trouble with them. Something else to improve on. Have not shot it yet but with a Rice barrel, I am sure it will be a shooter. I built a rifle for a guy in my club with a 38" barrel. I loved the feel of it so I built this one to hunt deer with.

Your workmanship is excellent! Very nice piece. What did you use to stain and finish the wood, please?

I used Wakhon Bay Aquafortis and a final light coat of Laurel Mountain Forge honey maple. I hand rubbed a bunch of coats of Keith Casteels oil finish. The last coat was with LMF Permalyn Sealer.
