Cal Tanner Pouch
« on: July 30, 2013, 11:34:52 PM »
I don't know how many of you are familiar with Cal's work, but he is pretty well known around the Ohio Valley region and makes some really fine hunting pouches.   He has won many awards at various shows including Dixon's.  Some really fine workmanship and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.  Anyway, I thought it was kind of cool that he chose to make a shot pouch patterned  off a relatively early original that I have owned for many years, for the CLA auction coming up at the show August 16-17th in Lexington.  Jim Hays - another fine craftsman from the region - made a nice hand forged bone handled knife to go with the pouch.  Cal is also making the horn to go with the set - it just was not ready at the time David had to photograph the pouch to get it on the website in time.

It is a neat pouch with a cool history, and Cal's interpretation is extremely well done.  Here is a link with photos -  it was on Art and Jan's Contmeporary Maker's Blog Spot today.

Guy,
Thanks for sharing that info and link!  That's a wonderful pouch and it is amazing that it has survived in such good condition.

Really nice looking pouch and knife--can't wait to see the whole set when the horn gets finished.
